23rd September 2007 - Division 2
Sheppey FC 2 - 0 Maltby Miners Welfare 'A'
Sheppey secured a second successive home win thanks to a double strike from Craig Walker. Walker was the only change from the side that beat Real Sportsman the previous week, replacing the injured Chris Mills on the left flank. Both sides started the game cautiously and very few chances were created in the opening quarter. Kicking down the slope Sheppey started to press the opposition more as the half progressed and Spence saw his free header from a Staniforth corner brilliantly tipped over the bar by the Miners' keeper. The deadlock was finally broken on the half hour. Chris Morris crossed from the right and Walker, running in from the left stabbed the ball home, wrong footing the keeper from 12 yards.
HT 1-0
The second half started as slowly as the first with neither team really threatening. Indeed, Matt Wright made his first save of the match on the hour, easily catching a curling free kick from 25 yards. Just past the hour Paul Wright replaced Jon Taylor at right back. Four minutes late Sheppey doubled their advantage. Staniforth's corner from the left caused panic in the Miners' defence and although Spence mis-cued his shot, the ball bounced kindly for Walker to volley home from the edge of the box. Sheppey subsequently squandered several chances to put the game beyond doubt as Staniforth and Reynolds both fired over when well place and Chipchase saw his effort saved by the keeper when through one on one. Jake Pearson made his Sheppey debut, replacing Morris with 20 minutes remaining and Phil Veal made his first appearance of the season, replacing Paul Bradley in defence.
