30th September 2007 - Division 2
Whiston 1-6 Sheppey FC
Sheppey kept up their one hundred percent start to the season and subsequently went top of Division two with a convincing win away a Whiston. On a superb playing service that had been given an extra bit of zip by the overnight rain Sheppey knocked the ball about well in the first half but a combination of enthusiastic Whiston defending and poor finishing kept the scores level. Six minutes before the break Sheppey finally broke the deadlock, Reynolds volleying home superbly from the edge of the box after a Morris cross head been partially cleared.
HT 1-0
The Whiston defence was breached again shortly after half time, Reynolds feeding Staniforth who beat the offside trap to coolly slot past the advancing keeper. With the Whiston players looking increasingly tired, Sheppey started again started to put together some good passing moves and in truth should have been further in front by the time the third goal arrived just after the hour. This time it was Walker who broke free down the left and his cross was slotted home by Morris at the far post. Four minutes later Chipchase made it 4-0, latching onto a through ball from substitute Chris Beech and Reynolds added the fifth and his second minutes later, playing a neat one-two with Chipchase on the edge of the box before lifting his shot over the advancing keeper. In the latter stages of the second half Sheppey could and should have scored more, with Staniforth, Dunhill and Chipchase all wasting good chances. Nine minutes from time Stanforth
