28th October 2007 - Division 2

Sheppey FC 5-4 Sunnyside

Sheppey maintained their 100% league record with an entertaining but hard fought win over Sunnyside. Sunnyside, looking for revenge after Sheppey's penalty shootout victory in the Rotherham cup, started the brighter and took the lead after twelve minutes. Hesitation from the Sheppey defence allowed the Sunnyside left winger to steal in and poke the ball past a stranded Wright. The goal sparked Sheppey into life and they were level nine minutes later. Dunhill sent Walker away down the left and his low cross was turned in at the near post by Staniforth for his ninth goal of the season. Just before the half hour mark Sheppey went infront. Walker was again the architect, his deep cross from the left volleyed in from close range by Morris. However, the lead didn't last long as a corner from the right caused chaos in the Sheppey defence and although Wright produced a wonder save from the first effort, the rebound was slammed home from 6 yards. Six minutes later Sunnyside edged back infront. After runnning unchallenged past three Sheppey defenders, Paul Wright was left with little option other than to bring the Sunnyside centre forward crashing to the ground. Matt Wright got a hand to the resulting penalty but it was firmly struck and nestled in the bottom corner. Five minutes before the break Chipchase again levelled matters, his well struck shot from the egde of the box took a wicked deflection off a defender before looping over the keeper and into the top corner. Two minutes later Suunyside capped a pulsating first half with their fourth goal. A debatable freekick was whipped in from the
left and the faintest of touches sent the ball into the bottom right corner of Wright's net.
HT 3-4

Kicking down the slope in the second half Sheppey began well and were starting to put the Sunnyside defence under pressure and it was no suprise when they drew level just after the hour mark. A good interchange of passes allowed Chipchase to cross from the left and Morris arrived to powerful volley past the keeper at the near post. Sheppey now looked the more likely winners but were thankful for another point blank save from Wright that kept the scores level. The save soon proved decisive as Sheppey took the lead on 76 minutes. Reynolds fed Chipchase just inside the Sunnyside half and the Sheppey striker raced forward, beat two defenders before driving the ball across the keeper into the bottom right corner.
