4th November 2007 - KO Cup Round 3

Manor Hotel 1-5 Sheppey FC

For the second season in succession Sheppey faced a trip to local rivals Manor Hotel in the cup. Sheppey were dealt an early blow when skipper Chris Staniforth was forced off after just ten minutes with a hamstring problem, Chris Beech moving into attack and Jake Pearson coming on in midfield. Sheppey dominated possession in the first half and had all the chances, forcing no fewer than ten corners. Despite their domination, they had to wait until 6 minutes before the break to break the deadlock. Reynolds long throw from the right was flicked on by Bradley and Morris stole in unmarked at the back post to send a half volley into the keeper's top left hand corner. Just before half time Sheppey were dealt another injury blow when Richard Beecher suffered a calf strain and had to be replaced by Ainsworth at left back.
HT 1-0

Less than a minute into the second half Manor were level, Andy Wallace burst into the box where he was sent tumbling by a combination of three Sheppey defenders. He duly dusted himself off to send Wright the wrong way from the spot. However the parity didn't last long as on 49 minutes Chipchase cut in from the right and drilled the ball into the keeper's bottom corner from the edge of the box. Two minutes later it was 3-1, Chipchase crossing for Chris Beech to sidefoot home his first of the season from 7 yards. On the hour Sheppey made the game safe. A short corner on the left was not closed down by the Manor defence, allowing Dunhill to
cross for Pearson to send a powerful downward header into the corner from 10 yards for his first ever Sheppey goal. The scoring was completed on 67 minutes. After some neat passing the ball was worked to Reynolds on the edge of the box where he unleashed an unstoppable half volley that flew into the keeper's bottom corner.

Team: Matt Wright, Paul Wright, Richard Beecher (Russ Ainsworth 40), Matt Dunhill, Paul Bradley, Jon Taylor, Chris Morris, Mike Reynolds, Chris Staniforth (Jake Pearson 10), Tom Chipchase, Chris Beech
