11th August 2007 - Len Webb Group Match 2

Sheppey FC 10 - 0 Manor Hotel

Sheppey manager Allen made just the one change from the win against the Haynook, returning club captain Chris Staniforth replacing Chris Beech in attack. Staniforth was immediately in the thick of the action as he set up Chipchase for the opening goal after just two minutes. Sheppey continued to force the pace and on 17 minutes it was 2-0, Dunhill's cross from the left sliced into his own net by the Manor right back. 4 minutes later Chipchase latched onto a poor backpass to make it 3-0, sliding his shot through the legs of the onrushing keeper. Manor were now struggling to keep the red tide at bay and Popplewell was unlucky to see his powerful shot from the right corner of the box cannon back of the crossbar. On 34 minutes Manor fashioned their first shot on goal, Wallace striking wide from distance. Two minutes before the break it was 4-0, Dunhill's outswinging corner from the right was powerfully headed home by Spence from 10 yards. HT 4-0.
Two minutes into the second half Chipchase squandered a chance of a hattrick, the keeper tipping his effort round the post. From the resulting corner Spence headed wide when it seemed easier to score. Staniforth then put his left footed shot wide from 6 yards before Spence again headed wide from a corner, although this was a much more difficult chance than the earlier miss. On 62 minutes Mallender was replaced by Bradley at the heart of the Sheppey defence. With 63 minutes on the clock it was 5-0, Staniforth sent a trademark long throw from the left deep into the Manor
penalty area where Popplewell, running away from goal, sent a superb glancing header into the bottom right hand corner. With one eye on the game against Maltby Juniors the following day, Allen began to make changes, on 65 minutes Chipchase was replaced by Ash Alexander, the sub taking up the right midfield berth with Popplewell moving into attack to partner Staniforth. One minute later Mills made it 6-0, playing a delightful one two with Staniforth on the edge of the box before hitting a left foot shot high into the roof of the net from 12 yards. On 69 minutes Dunhill was replaced by Veal, Mills switching to central midfeld and Veal taking up the left midfield spot.  With 72 minutes played Beecher was replaced by Ainsworth. Staniforth finally got his name on the scoresheet after 75 minutes, driving the ball through the hands of the keeper from the edge of the box. That goal was the start of a remarkable spell that saw the Sheppey skipper score four times in just 13 minutes (it must be said that he did miss twice as many in the same time span!!!!). His second arrived on 79minutes as he latched onto Reynolds' through ball and coolly beat the keeper from 15 yards. The hattrick goal arrived on 83 minutes, a low right footed shot from the edge of the D and a simple tap in from 6 yards completed the scoring on 88.

Team: Matt Wright, Richard Beecher (Russ Ainsworth 72), Craig Harrison, Matt Dunhill (Phil Veal 69), Nick Mallender (Paul Bradley 63), Lewis Spence, Richard Popplewell, Mike Reynolds, Chris Staniforth, Tom Chipchase (Ashley Alexander 65), Chris Mills
